Miniature circular gilt-bronze medal with laterally-pierced knob suspension; the face with an upright flaming torch and crossed powder horn and bugle within thirteen rays, each with a five-pointed star representing the founding states of the Union; the reverse with the full-length figure of a Minuteman facing left and surrounded by thirteen five-pointed stars, circumscribed ‘ARMED FORCES RESERVE’; age-toned; diameter 16.53mm (0.65 inch); on original ribbon with slide for bar-mounting. The Medal was instituted on 25 September 1950 to be awarded to United States Armed Forces Reserves on completion of a total of ten years service. There are six versions for the different branches of the Reserves, each differentiated by a particular design component on the reverse; this example is for the Army. A good period miniature.
