Miniature bronze Greek cross with out-turned ends to the arms, with eyelet and ribbon suspension bar with flame lilies denoting a civilian award; the face with a centrally-imposed four-pointed faceted star with a circular central medallion bearing a Zimbabwe bird within a ring inscribed ‘FOR BRAVERY’ with laurel leaves above, the arms purple enamelled; the reverse plain; diameter 19.51mm (0.77 inch); on correct ribbon. The Cross was instituted in October 1980 to replace the Bronze Cross of Rhodesia and is Zimbabwe’s third-highest award for bravery. Versions exist for the Army, Air Force, Police, Prison Service and Civilians, each distinguished by the symbol on the suspension bar. The Civilian version is rare.
