Bronze cross pattée with laurel wreath between the arms, on laterally pierced cylinder suspension; the face with a circular central medallion bearing a female head representative of the French Republic and crowned with a laurel wreath encircled by a band with the inscription ‘REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE’; the reverse with a circular central medallion bearing the inscription ‘’CROIX DE LA VALEUR MILITAIRE’, with Paris Mint bronze hallmarks at the base of the lower arm; on original ribbon.

The Cross was instituted on 12 October 1956 and was essentially a Croix de Guerre for military serving in Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia for acts of bravery on the field of battle.

It was awarded mainly during the Algerian campaign, much more rarely in Tunisia and Morocco and also in Mauritania and Chad.
