Miniature circular silver medal on ornate swivel scroll suspension; the face with the head and shoulders portrait of King Edward VII in field marshal’s uniform facing left, circumscribed ‘EDWARDUS VII REX IMPERATOR’ (Edward VII King Emperor); the reverse inscribed ‘FOR / DISTINGUISHED / CONDUCT / IN THE FIELD’ above an arabesque; diameter 17.82mm (0.7 inch); on possibly original ribbon.

The Medal was instituted in 1854 during the Crimean War as a decoration for other ranks for acts of great bravery on the field of battle, ranking second only to the Victoria Cross.

A good period miniature.
