Miniature circular silver medal on ornate swivel scroll suspension; the face with the head and shoulders portrait of King George V in field marshal’s uniform facing left, circumscribed ‘GEORGIVS V BRITT: OMN: REX IND: IMP:’ (George V King of Great Britain, Emperor of India); the reverse inscribed ‘FOR / DISTINGUISHED / CONDUCT / IN THE FIELD’ above an arabesque; diameter 17.81mm (0.70 inch); couple of slight edge nicks and contact marks; on probably replaced correct ribbon.

The Medal was instituted in 1854 during the Crimean War as a decoration for other ranks for acts of great bravery on the field of battle, ranking second only to the Victoria Cross.

A good period miniature.
