Eight-pointed gilt star, the arms faceted, with graduated rays between the arms, that in the middle of each set of rays with a ball-tipped finial, with eyelet for ribbon suspension; the face with a circular central red enamel medallion bearing the gilt three-quarter length figure of a soldier, his cape billowing to the left, an upright rifle in his right hand, a bugle, which he is blowing, in his left; the reverse inscribed with the name of the medal in Korean characters; a small loss of red enamel top left of the medallion; on original ribbon and suspension in the Chinese style, mounted for wear. The Medal was instituted on 25 July 1985 to mark the thirtieth anniversary of the Korean War, known in North Korea as the Fatherland Liberation War, and awarded to the veterans of both that war and of World War II, known in North Korea as the Anti-Japanese Revolutionary Struggle.
