Miniature circular silver medal with ornate scrolled ribbon suspension bar and ‘S. PERSIA’ clasp loose on the ribbon; the face with the uncrowned ‘coinage’ head of King George V facing left, circumscribed ‘GEORGIVS V BRITT: OMN: REX ET IND: IMP:’ (George V King of Great Britain and Emperor of India); the reverse with a standing winged Victory with Greek helmet, an upright trident in her left hand, a laurel wreath in her right hand crowning an upright winged sword; diameter 17.85mm (0.7 inch); on correct possibly original ribbon with glue residue to the upper reverse. The medal was instituted on 19 January 1923 to be awarded to Army and Air Force personnel involved in small conflicts outside Africa and India where a separate campaign medal was not issued. The ‘S. Persia’ clasp was awarded for service in Southern Persia immediately after the end of the Great War between 12 November 1918 and 22 June 1919.
