Miniature circular coppered metal medal with loop for ribbon suspension; the face with the lesser arms of Portugal; the reverse with a cross potent formy bearing a narrow Greek cross on a stippled ground, circumscribed ‘ASSIDUADE DE SERVIÇO NO ULTRAMAR’, a stylised flower at the base; diameter 15.09mm (0.59 inch); on replaced ribbon. The Medal has its origins in the award created by King Carlos I in 1891 and amended by the Portuguese Republic on 4 February 1911. New versions were introduced in 1946 and again, as in this example, in 1970 to be awarded for service in Angola, Portuguese Guinea and Mozambique between 4 February 1961 and 25 April 1974.
