Circular silvered metal medal with loop for ribbon suspension; the face with the 1965 to 1989 arms of Romania, circumscribed ‘REPUBLICA SOCIALISTA ٠ ROMANIA’; the reverse inscribed ‘PENTRU / SERVICII DEOSEBITE / ADUSE ÎN APÃRAREA / ORÎNDUIRII SOCIALE / ŞI DE STAT’ (for Distinguished Services in Defence of the Social Order and the Country); on original wire hanger, ribbon and rectangular bronze hanger mounted for wear; with ribbon bar mounted for wear. The medal was instituted in 1968 and awarded to junior members of the Departamentul Securităţii Statului (State Security Department), known universally as the Securitate. It was abolished in 1989.
