Miniature white metal medal with laurel wreath suspension; the face with the arms of the City of Nieuwpoort inscribed ‘STADT NIEUWPOORT’ below; the reverse inscribed ‘8E EEUWFEEST / FRANS BELGISCHE /DAG’ (8th Centenary Anniversary, Franco-Belgian Day), dated above ‘1163-1963’ and ‘4 AUGUSTUS 1963’ below; diameter 14.31mm (0.56 inch); on original ribbon in the Flemish colours. Nieuwpoort is situated on Belgium’s North Sea coast at the mouth of the River Yser near the French border. It was granted City status on 4 August 1163 by Philip I, Count of Flanders.
