Miniature circular bronze medal with laterally-pierced ball suspension; the face with the famous work ‘La Renommée Proclame le Mérite’ (Fame Proclaims Merit) by Henri Naudé; the reverse inscribed ‘RENAISSANCE / FRANÇAISE / – / MÉRITE / CIVIQUE’; diameter 13.35mm (0.53 inch); on replaced ribbon. The Renaissance Française is an organisation devoted to developing and promoting French culture internationally. Henri Naudé was a French sculptor and medallist, born at Bernier-Cordon (Ain), who studied under Dubois and Ponscarme and exhibited at the Paris Salons in the last two decades of the 19th Century. ‘La Renommée Proclame le Mérite’ is probably his most famous work, being used as a stock image for medals for many purposes in the early 20th Century.
