Circular silver medal with suspension loop to the reverse and original silver wire knot and ribbon suspension bar; the face with a circular central medallion bearing a lion passant guardant, facing left and carrying an unsheathed sabre in its right front paw, imposed on a radiant rising sun within a ring of laurel leaves; the reverse with a circular central medallion inscribed in Farsi characters ‘Pahlavi Shahanshah-e- Iran’ (Pahlavi, the King of Kings of Iran), circumscribed above ‘Beh paadaash-e-Khedmat’ (on honour of service) and dated ‘25 Azar 1304’ (16 December 1925) below; on original deeply age-faded ribbon. The medal was instituted on 16 December 1925 in three grades the day after Rez? Sh?h Pahlavi took the Imperial oath and became first Shah of the Pahlavi dynasty. The medal replaced the Qajar decoration of similar design and was awarded for honourable service. It was not awarded after August 1941 following the invasion of Iran by the Allied powers and the enforced abdication of Rez? Sh?h in favour of his son. The medal was made by Arthus Bertrand of Paris. A very good example of a rare medal.
