Cross of six cylindrical faceted arms, the space between the arms infilled by a faceted bifurcated ray, with loop for ribbon suspension; the face with a circular central deep pink enamel medallion bearing a silvered rose with two blooms; the reverse with the initials ‘PRL’ (Polska Rzeczpospolita Ludowa = Polish People's Republic) centrally, circumscribed ‘ZA D?UGOLETNIE PO?YCIE MA??ENSKIE’ (for long married life); on original ribbon.
The medal was instituted on 17 February 1960 to be awarded for 50 years of married life (to the same person!) provided there was at least one child, whether natural or adopted, of the union. Happily, the medal continues to be awarded, though ‘PRL’ has become ‘PR’ on the reverse. A charming and unusual medal.
