Miniature circular gilt bronze medal with loop for ribbon suspension; the face with a Yucca plant in full bloom, mountains in the distance, circumscribed above ‘MEXICAN SERVICE’ and dated ‘1911-1917’ below; the reverse with an American eagle, wings outstretched, perched on a trophy of arms, inscribed below ‘FOR SERVICE’, circumscribed above ‘UNITED STATES ARMY’, thirteen five-pointed stars around the lower edge for the original States of the Union; diameter 16.12mm (0.63 inch); gilding age-faded and worn; on replaced correct ribbon. The Medal was instituted by War Department General Orders Number 155 dated 12 December 1917 to be awarded for qualifying service between 12 April 1911 and 16 June 1919. A good period miniature.
