Circular bronze medal with laterally-pierced ball suspension; the face with a full-length classically-attired winged female figure blowing a trumpet, a seated cherub in the foreground, a palm branch in its extended left hand, all with a ring inscribed ‘LA RENOMMEE PROCLAME LE MERITE’ (Reputation proclaims merit), signed ‘H. Naudé’ (for the French Art Nouveau sculptor and medallist Henri Naudé, born at Bernier-Cordon (Ain) in 1859, who studied under Dubois and Ponscarme and exhibited at the Paris Salons in the last two decades of the 19th Century.  ‘La Renommée Proclame le Mérite’ is probably his most famous work, being used as a stock image for medals for many purposes in the early 20th Century); the reverse inscribed ‘FÉDÉRATION NATIONALE DES DÉCORÉS DE LA MÉDAILLE D’HONNEUR DU TRAVAIL DE FRANCE ET DE L’UNION FRANÇAISE’; bronze hallmark and triangular maker’s mark of Adrien Chobillon of Paris on the edge; on original ribbon with rosette and a mounted for wear in the French style.

The Federation, originally the Fédération Nationale des Décorés de la Médaille d'Honneur du Travail de France et des Colonies and renamed following the loss of France’s colonies, represents the interests of those awarded the Medal of Honour for Labour and makes recommendations for new recipients.
