Circular bronze medal with laterally-pierced ball suspension; the face with a central red enamel Greek (Geneva) cross circumscribed ‘NEDERLANDSCHE • RODE • KRUIS’, a four-petalled flower at the base; the reverse with a large central ‘X’ (10) circumscribed ‘VOOR TROUWEN DIENST’ (for faithful service), a four-petalled flower at the base; the enamel is intact but has slight age 'frosting' in places; on original ribbon.

The Medal was instituted by the Netherlands Red Cross National Committee on 10 December 1926, 60th anniversary of the foundation of the Netherlands Red Cross, to be awarded for 10 years’ diligent and faithful service.

In 1940, the dots separating the words ‘VOOR • TROUWEN • DIENST’ disappeared and in 1976 the more modern circumscription ‘Nederlandse Rode Kruis’ was substituted. This example is therefore of the second version of the Medal, issued from 1940 to 1976.
