Stamped white metal Greek cross with integral crown suspension; the face with an imposed circular central medallion bearing an escutcheon quarterly of Castile and Léon with Granada enté en point, the arms hatched; the reverse concave; on replaced correct ribbon. The Order was created by Queen Isabel II in 1864 to be awarded for military merit. The cross has a white ribbon with a central red stripe in times of peace, and red with a central white stripe, as in this example, in times of war. The arms seen on this example were used only during the First Republic from 1873 to 1874. A rare example.
