Large circular zinc alloy table medal; the face with the Prussian eagle, head facing right, wings outstretched, inscribed ‘REPUBLIK’ above and ‘PREUSSEN’ below; the reverse inscribed ‘FÜR RETTUNG AUS GEFAHR’ (For Rescue from Danger) within an oak leaf border in relief; some age oxidisation; diameter 48.72mm (1.92 inches). The award was instituted on 9 June 1925 for rescue from danger at the peril of rescuer’s life and was awarded very sparingly. The original was manufactured in silver; this example is in zinc alloy and may have been manufactured for collectors at the time.
