Miniature circular silvered medal with scroll and fixed ribbon bar suspension; the face with the crowned head of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, circumscribed ‘ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA F.D.’ (Elizabeth II by the Grace of God Queen Defender of the Faith); the reverse with the full-length figure of Neptune, thunderbolts in his hands, a trireme beyond, the heads of three horses to the right below a trident, circumscribed ‘VICTORIA CURAM AMAT’ (Victory loves care); diameter 18.79mm (0.74 inch); on original ribbon.

The Medal was instituted on 12 June 1953 to be awarded at the annual Royal Navy and Royal Marines Small Arms Meeting at Bisley in Surrey and also to the Royal New Zealand Navy.
