Circular bronze medal with loop for ribbon suspension; the face with a lifesaving scene off a coast within a ring inscribed ‘ROYAL LIFE SAVING SOCIETY * ESTABLISHED 1891’; the reverse inscribed ‘AWARDED TO’ and engraved with the attribution ‘M. A. L. BARKER / OCT. 1927.’ within a ring inscribed ‘QUEMCUNQUE MISEUM VIDERIS HOMINEM SCIAS’ (Latin = whosoever you see in distress, recognise him as a fellow man). The medallion is awarded for knowledge, skill and judgement in lifesaving. The Life Saving Society was founded in 1891 with the purpose of safeguarding lives in, on and near water.
