Large circular silver medal on crown suspension; the face with a portrait in relief of King Gustaf V circumscribed ‘GUSTAF V SVERIGES GÖT O VEND KONUNG’ (Gustaf V King of Sweden); the reverse inscribed ‘ǺT BERNHARD BARK FÖR LǺNGVARIG TROGEN TJENST’ (To Bernhard Bark for Long and Faithful Service) and circumscribed ‘AF KONGL•PATRIOTISKA SÄLISKAPET’ (From the Royal Patriotic Society); diameter 41mm (1⅝ inches); stamped on the rim ‘MJV SILVER 1948’; on long original ribbon. The Swedish Patriotic Society for Encouragement of the Arts, Crafts and the Country’s Industries (Svenska Patriotiska Sällskapet till konsters, slöjders och rikets näringars uppmuntran) was established in the 1760s. In 1772 King Gustaf III granted the Society its articles and it gained the prefix ‘Royal’. The Society became a focal point for prominent people from government, science, agriculture, trade and industry to discuss new discoveries in these fields and their practical application. In 1802 the Society was given permission to issue medals to be worn. The ribbon of green and yellow are for grass and hay, representative of agriculture. Large, impressive medal.
