Miniature circular bronze medal with crown and swivel ball suspension; the face with the head and shoulders portrait of King Edward VII facing left, circumscribed ‘EDWARDUS VII REX IMPERATOR’ (Edward VII King Emperor); the reverse with the ‘ERI’ cipher of King and Emperor Edward VII centrally within a laurel wreath, inscribed below on three ribbons ‘ROYAL VICTORIAN MEDAL’; diameter 17.8mm (0.7 inch); a very slight edge bruise at the base; on original ribbon with brooch bar mounted for wear. The Medal was instituted on 21 April 1896 to be awarded to those below the rank of officer for service to the sovereign and is in his or her personal gift. It is most often given to members of the Royal Household, to those who are of service to the monarch during foreign tours and during state visits to heads of state and their personal entourage. The Medal is issued in small numbers and is not often available on the market. A good example.
