Circular lustred bronze medal with clip for ribbon suspension; the face with the arms of the City of Hanover within a beaded border, circumscribed ‘STADT HANNOVER DEN SIEGERN WATERLOO’ (City of Hanover to the Victors of Waterloo’ and dated ’18 JUNI 1815’ below; the reverse inscribed ‘ZUR / 50 JÄHRIGEN / JUBELFEIER / AM 18 JUNI / 1865’ (for the 50th anniversary jubilee celebrations on 18 June 1865) within a laurel wreath; on original age-faded ribbon in the colours of Hanover. The medal was created to mark the 50th anniversary of the defeat of Napoleonic French forces at Waterloo in which some eleven thousand Hanoverian troops played a crucial role.
