Circular medal of cannon bronze (Geschützbronze) with loop for ribbon suspension; the face with a central cross pattée with stippled ground, the ‘EAR’ (Ernst Augustus Rex) cipher of King Ernst August centrally, the Hanoverian crown on the upper arm, the lower arm dated ‘1813’; the reverse dated ‘1813’ centrally within a laurel wreath; on replaced correct ribbon. The Medal was instituted by King Ernst August on 11 May 1841 to be awarded ‘für diejenigen Untertanen, welche 1813 freiwillig zu den Waffen griffen, als auch für Ausländer, die damals in die hannoversche Armee traten, un zur Beifreiung des Vaterlandes vom französischen Joche beizutragen’ (for those subjects who in 1813 voluntarily took up arms, also for foreigners who at that time served in the Hanoverian army, and thereby contributed to liberating the country from the French yoke). The medal is rare.
