Circular silver medal with loop for ribbon suspension; the face with the crowned cipher of King Ernst August; the reverse inscribed ‘KRIEGER / VERDIENST’ within a laurel wreath; diameter 24.74mm (0.97 inches); attributed on the edge to ‘SENNE.’; on original ribbon. The medal was instituted by King Ernst August on 5 June 1841 to be awarded to non-commissioned officers and other ranks for distinguished military merit (‘für ausgezeichnete militärische Verdienste’). It was suppressed in 1866 when the Kingdom of Hanover was subsumed into the Kingdom of Prussia. The Medal is rare.
