Circular silver medal with loop for ribbon suspension; the face with the crowned cipher of King Ernst August; the reverse inscribed ‘KRIEGER VERDIENST’ within a laurel wreath; diameter 24.7mm (0.97 inches); weight 14.08 grams (0.49 oz); attribution on the edge to ‘FELDWEBEL MÜLLER.’ (Feldwebel = sergeant); on replaced correct ribbon. The medal was instituted by King Ernst August on 5 June 1841 to be awarded to non-commissioned officers and other ranks for distinguished military merit (‘für ausgezeichnete militärische Verdienste’). It was suppressed in 1866 when the Kingdom of Hanover was subsumed into the Kingdom of Prussia. A rare medal in outstanding condition.
