Heavy five-pointed bronze star with loop and laurel-decorated ribbon bar bearing a star and crescent; the face with a circular central medallion depicting a sphinx, three pyramids beyond, within a ring inscribed ‘EGYPT 1882’ above and ‘١٢٩٩’ (1299 = AH equivalent of AD1882) and ‘Khedive of Egypt’ in Arabic script below; the reverse with a circular central medallion bearing the crowned cipher of Khedive Tewfik, the upper left and upper right arms engraved ‘Lce CORPL. E.’ and ‘CHURCHOUSE’ respecively, the lower arm engraved ‘6566’; the tips of the lower left and lower right arms blunted; on probably replaced correct ribbon. The Star was instituted in 1882 and awarded by Khedive Tewfik of Egypt to Army and Royal Navy personnel entitled to the Egypt Medal for their assistance in reasserting his control over Egypt, albeit under French and British supervision. The star was manufactured by Henry Jenkins & Son of Birmingham. Sold with ten large sheets from the National Archives with details of the service record of 6566 Lance Corporal Edward Churchhouse, 2nd Battalion, Grenadier Guards, including his attestation papers, his military and medical history and of the medal roll showing entitlement to the Egypt Medal (with Tel-el-Kebir clasp) and thus to the Khedive’s Star. A well-documented Star.
