Six-pointed stippled orange-yellow enamel star with three blue enamel points between each arm, on pale green enamel palm-leaf suspension; the face with a circular central gilt medallion bearing a female head facing left within a blue enamel ring inscribed in gilt letters ‘REPUBLIQUE GABONAISE 1959’; the reverse plain gilt with a circular central medallion bearing a shield with the green, yellow and blue horizontal stripes of the Gabonese flag within a blue enamel ring inscribed ‘UNION TRAVAIL JUSTICE’; on original ribbon mounted for wear in the French style; in case of issue, a small indentation in the lid, lower left. The Order was instituted in 1959 to reward personal merit and service to the nation and is both a military and civil award. It is made by Arthus Bertrand, Paris. A good example of a rare order.
