Circular gilt bronze medal with loop for suspension; the face with the arms of Darshan within a castellated border, inscribed ‘ДАРХАН’ (Darshan) below; the reverse with the central inscription ‘БНМАУ’ (for Бугд Найрамдах Монгол Ард Улс = Mongolian People's Republic), numbered crudely ‘777’ below; on enamel hanger mounted for wear. Darshan (Mongolian = blacksmith) was founded in 1961 with the aim of establishing a heavy industrial centre near the border with the Soviet Union. We have found no reference to this medal but assume that it was instituted in 1961 for those involved in the creation of the city.
