Gilt-edged five-pointed red enamel star with graduated gilt rays between the arms; the face with a circular central medallion bearing the gilt arms of the Republic; the reverse with the name of the award in Korean characters; slight contact marks to the reverse; mounted for wear on original ribbon bar. The Medal was instituted on 19 August 1983 to commemorate the fortieth anniversary of the founding of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and the Korean Workers’ Party and was awarded for outstanding achievement and distinguished service to the country.
