Circular gilt metal medal with loop for ribbon suspension; the face with a distant view of Mount Mayon seen across Albay Gulf, a shore line and coconut palm tree in the foreground, five-pointed stars to either side, circumscribed above ‘FOR SERVICE’ and ‘LUZON CAMPAIGNS’ below; the reverse with the pre-1935 ‘Philippine Islands’ coat of arms centrally; on original ribbon with brooch bar mounted for wear and with maker’s mark ‘MANUFACTURED BY / ‘EL ORO’ / JOSE TUPAZ, JR. / QUEZON CITY PHILIPPINES’. The medal was awarded to military engaged in combating the anti-government uprising in central Luzon after World War II from 4 July 1946 onwards for a minimum of six months and, after 13 May 1948, for actions against piracy and smuggling. The medal is not often found.
