Circular cupro-nickel medal with scroll and swivel ring suspension; the face with the head and shoulders portrait of the Sultan of Brunei in uniform facing left above a laurel wreath, signed ‘SPINK LONDON’; the reverse with the crests of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, circumscribed ‘PINGAT JUBLI PERAK ABDB’ above, dated ‘31 MEI 1961 – 31 MEI 1986’ below; on original ribbon mounted for wear. The medal was created in 1986 to mark the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces on 31 May 1961 as the Brunei Malay Regiment (Askar Melayu Brunei). Four years later, on 31 May 1965 the title ‘Diraja’ (Royal) was granted. When Brunei became independent from Great Britain on 1 January 1984, the Regiment was renamed the Angkatan Bersenjata Diraja Brunei (Royal Brunei Armed Forces. The medal is not often found.
