Large circular silver medal with laterally-pierced loop and ring for ribbon suspension; the face with the then arms of Sarawak within a ring inscribed HARAP-LAH SA-LAGI BERNAFAS (As long as I breathe, I hope), motto of Sarawak within a chakra border; the reverse with a circular central medallion within a ring inscribed ‘FAITHFUL AND MERITORIOUS SERVICE • SIJIL KEHORMATAN NEGARA’ within a chakra border; diameter 44.26mm (1.74 inches); on original full neck ribbon. The medal was instituted after the ‘White Rajah’ Brooke family ceded sovereignty to the British government in July 1946 and awarded until Sarawak became a constituent state of Malaysia in 1963 to state employees in recognition of long and meritorious service. A minimum of twenty years’ continuous faithful and meritorious service was required. The medal is not often found.
