Oval gilt bronze medal with loop for ribbon suspension; the face with an oval central medallion bearing a Greek (Geneva) cross centrally on a ground of lozenges from the Bavarian arms with the heraldic hatching for blue and white, all within a ring inscribed ‘BAYER - LANDES - VEREIN º VOM - ROTES - KREUZ’ (Bavarian State Red Cross Association); the reverse inscribed ‘Für / Verdienste / im Kriege / 1914-18’ (for Merit in Wartime 1914-18) within a ring; on replaced correct ribbon.
The Medal was instituted by the Bavarian Red Cross in 1919 to be awarded for outstanding service during World War I.
