Silver cross bottony with loop for ribbon suspension; the face with a circular central medallion bearing the intertwined initials of King Wilhelm II and Queen Charlotte of Württemberg; the reverse with a circular central medallion bearing the date ‘1916’; with original unmounted ribbon; in the original pasteboard case of issue with the royal arms on the lid, the hinge broken and temporarily fixed with transparent tape. The Cross was instituted by King Wilhelm II on 5 January 1916 in honour of Queen Charlotte (born Princess of Schaumburg-Lippe) to recognise those who tended the sick and wounded, both at the front and at home. A good example.
