Nickel silver cross pattée with angled points and concave ends to the arms, with oak wreath between the arms, on laterally-pierced ball suspension; the face with the head of King Willem III facing left encircled by a garter inscribed ‘VOOR KRIJGSVERRIGTINGEN’ (For War Actions), each arm of the cross with the initial ‘W’; the reverse plain; on original ribbon with nickel silver ‘Atjeh 1873-1896’ bar.
The Cross was instituted on 19 February 1869 to be awarded to participants in major campaigns.
The ‘Atjeh 1873-1896’ bar was instituted on 21 June 1897 and awarded for service in Atjeh and dependencies between 1891 and 1896.
A very fine example.
