Massive silver, silver gilt and enamel insignia of multi-part construction and of hexagonal form with a semi-circular border to the upper half of alternate green enamel and gilt stripes with the Emblem of Sudan in silver above with ring for ribbon suspension; the face with a hexagonal central white enamel medallion imposed with a gilt Arabic inscription, gilt decorated inscribed ovals above, upper left and upper right, ‘Sudan’ and the name of the Order in Arabic script below; the reverse plain; a few small age-oxidisation spots; diameter 96.51mm (3.8 inches); on original ribbon; in original fitted embossed case of issue by Spink and Son, London. The Order was instituted in 1974 to be awarded to those in government offices, public organisations and corporations to recognise achievement in the civil service or public sector. It was issued in two sizes, as a large breast badge for display, as in this example, and as a smaller breast badge for wear. A massive and impressive piece.
