Gilt metal and white enamel Maltese cross with gilt crossed swords between the arms, on scroll and laterally-pierced ball suspension; the face with a circular central white enamel medallion bearing the gilt cipher of King Albert; the reverse identical; a couple of very slight chips to the tips of the white enamel; on original ribbon mounted for wear with gilt metal ‘1914-1918’ bar. The Decoration was instituted on 12 December 1918 in five classes to recognize outstanding wartime service to Belgium by civilians and non-combatant military. A superb example.
