Chocolate brown metal cross crosslet with loop for ribbon suspension; the face with a circular central medallion with the cipher ‘?I’ for King Ferdinand I circumscribed ‘??????? 22 ?????????? 1908’ (Trnovo 22 September 1908), a Bulgarian royal crown on each of the arms; the reverse with a crowned lion rampant bearing the Saxon shield and circumscribed ‘????????? ???????’ (Bulgarian kingdom), signed ‘P. TELGE’ at the base; on replaced correct gentleman’s ribbon. The medal was instituted early in 1909 to commemorate the proclamation of Bulgaria as an independent kingdom at Trnovo, ancient capital of Bulgaria, on 22 September of the previous year. It was awarded to officers and veterans of the Bulgarian army and to state officials. The medal was manufactured by Paul Telge of Berlin.
