Circular bronze medal with eyelet for ribbon suspension; the face inscribed ‘OSTRAVA’ and dated ‘1945 / 1985’ below right, the Red Flag above, geometric arrows with rounded heads beyond; the reverse inscribed ’40.VÝRO?Í / OSVOBOZENÍ / OSTRAVY / SOV?TSKOU ARMÁDOU’ (40th Anniversary of the Liberation of Ostrava by the Soviet Army) above a hammer and sickle, the lower part of the medal recessed, dated ‘30 DUBEN / 1945’ (30 April 1945), signed ‘V. PAVLICA’; on original ribbon with brooch bar for wear. The medal was issued to commemorate the liberation of the city of Ostrava in then north-east Czechoslovakia on 30 April 1945. Ostrava is the third city of the Czech Republic. The medal is not often found.
