Circular silver medal on laterally-pierced ball suspension; the face with a female head facing right representative of the French Republic, circumscribed ‘REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE’ and signed ‘Borrel’; the reverse with a central rectangular plaque with the attribution ‘N. SOFIANOS 1975’ imposed on a cartouche of agricultural products and implements inscribed ‘HONNEUR TRAVAIL’ (Honour Labour) and circumscribed ‘MINISTERE DE L’AGRICULTURE’ (Ministry of Agriculture), with silver assay marks; some age oxidisation and crackling; on original tricolour ribbon. The medal was instituted on 17 June 1890 to recognise long and faithful service, usually for the same employer, and extended beyond agriculture to foresters, huntsmen, gamekeepers, watermen and others working in the countryside.
