Circular bronze medal with laterally-pierced loop for ribbon suspension; the face with the head and shoulders portraits of King Edward VII and, beyond, Queen Alexandra, both facing right, crowned and in coronation robes, circumscribed ‘EDWARD • VII R • I • ALEXANDRA • R • ’(Edward VII King and Emperor, Alexandra Queen); the reverse with a central medallion with a seascape view of Hong Kong with a British three-masted sailing ship and a Chinese junk, hills beyond, a quay in the foreground with two figures shaking hands to the left and another solitary figure to the right, inscribed ‘HONG KONG’ above and circumscribed concentrically ‘SIR HENRY A. BLAKE. G.C.M.G. GOVERNOR’ and ‘TO COMMEMORATE THE CORONATION OF THEIR MAJESTIES THE KING AND QUEEN’; this example is on the ribbon of the British Coronation Medal 1902, though no ribbon was officially designated for the Hong Kong medal. The medal was issued to mark the coronation of King Edward VII and awarded to British and Indian military and police officers then serving in Hong Kong. The medal was produced by Edmonds & Son of London. It is very rarely seen.
