Circular bronze medal with claw, ball and ornate foliate scroll suspension; the face with the head and shoulders portrait of as-Sayyid Abdullah bin al-Husayn (1882-1951), Emir of Trans-Jordan (later King of Jordan) facing left, wearing a keffiyeh, an inscription in Arabic below; the reverse with an inscription in Arabic below the Jordanian crown, laurel branches to either side, dated below ‘١٣٣٩’ (= 1339AH =AD 1920); suspension slightly loose; on correct, possibly original ribbon. The medal was instituted in 1920 as the Emirate of Trans-Jordan was carved from the British Mandate of Palestine following the break-up of the Ottoman Empire at the end of World War I. The medal is rare.
