Circular bronze medal with laterally pierced ball suspension; the face with the entwined scrolled letters ‘LR’ (Liberian Republic) and dated ‘1920’ circumscribed with the motto of the Liberian Republic ‘LIGHT IN DARKNESS’ with three five-pointed stars below; the reverse with the arms of the Republic; age discolouration and oxidisation; on probably original ribbon. The medal was inaugurated in 1920 under the presidency of Charles D. B. King who took office on 5 January of that year, having been foreign minister of the Republic since 1912. The design of the medal is identical to that for the State Merit Medal, though the ribbon differs. The medal is rare.
