Circular gilt-metal, elaborately decorated uniface medal with a red enamel central medallion with hands bearing a flaming torch, the Syrian flag in red, white, black and green enamel, a laurel wreath and a curved sword in white enamel, all encircled by a gilt ring decorated with laurel leaves; on original ribbon. The medal was instituted on 6 January 1962 and awarded to non-commissioned officers and other ranks for 15 years’ service. The first version, awarded in 1962 and 1963, shows the Syrian flag with a green upper stripe. This example, with a red upper stripe, dates from the period 1963 to 1972.
