Circular gilt metal uniface medal with geometric decoration, the central medallion depicting a hand holding a flaming torch, surrounded by concentric enamel rings in the Syrian national colours of black, white and red, the white ring inscribed and dated; on original ribbon. The medal was instituted on 9 April 1963 to commemorate the military coup of 8 March 1963 that installed the Ba'ath party in power and was awarded to all then serving members of the armed forces.
