Circular bronze medal on a suspension of crossed curved swords supporting a Christian church surmounted by a crescent; the medal with a map of the Holy Land in relief surrounded by a green enamel laurel wreath, dated 1948 (AD) and inscribed in Arabic ‘Palestine’; the reverse plain; on original ribbon mounted for wear in the French style; in original rare envelope of issue with maker’s mark ‘ARTHUS BERTRAND PARIS’.
The Medal was created on 18 December 1951 and awarded for bravery and service in the battles in Palestine in 1948 and 1949. Recipients numbered no more than 8,000, serving in two infantry brigades, a mechanised battalion, and a small rudimentary air force.
An excellent example.
