Miniature circular bronze medal with laterally pierced loop for ribbon suspension; the face with a circular central medallion bearing the greater arms of Belgium surrounded by the sixteen points of the compass imposed on a circular laurel wreath; the reverse with the emblem of the United Nations, being a map of the world with gridlines within a laurel wreath; diameter 13.95mm (0.55 inch); on probably replaced correct ribbon. The medal was instituted on 26 September 1951 and awarded to the Belgian soldiers who volunteered for service in Korea. Two battalions of Belgian volunteer troops, each of 900 men, served in Korea during the Korean War, the second battalion remaining until 1955. In total, no more than 3,500 full-size medals were awarded.
