Miniature silvered metal cross pattée, the arms stippled, with laterally-pierced cylinder for ribbon suspension; the face with a circular central medallion with stippled ground bearing a red enamelled triangle, point downwards, with the silvered and black letter ‘B’; the reverse with a black enamel circular central medallion bearing the dates ‘1940’ and ‘1945’; the silvering worn; on original ribbon. The medal was instituted on 13 November 1947 and awarded to those who had been imprisoned on political grounds during the occupation of Belgium by Nazi Germany. The ribbon is representative of the uniform worn by these prisoners and the red triangle of the badge that denoted their reason for imprisonment.
