Miniature silver-edged white enamel cross pattée on scroll and laterally-pierced ball suspension; the face with a circular central red enamel medallion inscribed in gilt letters ‘?? ???????????’ (St Alexander) within a circular white enamel ring inscribed in gilt letters ‘?? ???? ????’ (God is with us); the reverse with a paste brilliant replacing the original medallion; diameter 15.33mm (0.6 inch); slight loss of white enamel from the inner edge of the upper right of the ring of the face and rubbing to the gilt lettering; on correct trifold ribbon. The Order of St Alexander was instituted on 25 December 1881 to be awarded to both military and civilians. Please note the reverse medallion has been replaced with a paste brilliant. The Order is very rarely seen in miniature.
